Safe handover tips
A quick guide for renters and owners: from initial confirmation to deposit release. The main rule is one — keep all communication and payments inside Carter.
This is a translation of the Indonesian original. In the event of any discrepancy, the Indonesian version shall prevail.
Before you meet
- Confirm every detail through in-app chat — schedule, meeting point, and handover method (pickup or courier). Chat history becomes evidence if a dispute occurs.
- Do not share phone numbers or other contacts before the booking is approved. Anything that happens outside the platform is not protected by Carter policies.
- Re-read the listing description and item photos so you know what to expect during the inspection later.
At handover
- Inspect the item together; do not rush. Turn it on, try it, and make sure everything works.
- Compare the condition of the item with the listing photos and the condition checklist on the booking page — parts that look different are best photographed from both sides.
- Note the included accessories: cables, chargers, remotes, bags, warranty cards. What goes unrecorded often becomes a source of misunderstanding at return.
- Only proceed after the handover confirmation button in the app is pressed by the right party — this digital proof locks in the initial condition of the item.
At return
- Repeat the same inspection together: compare against the initial-condition photos and check the accessories recorded earlier.
- Do not accept or send any payment outside the platform — the rental rate and deposit are already handled through Carter escrow.
- The deposit is returned through escrow after the owner verifies the final condition (within 48 hours at most). There are no cash refunds on the spot.
- Keep the final-condition photos in the app, not only in your phone gallery — uploaded photos are the reference for settlement.
Red flags — be careful if
- The other party asks for a transfer or direct payment outside Carter for any reason ('to make it faster', 'to save on fees').
- There is pressure to rush: 'pay now or someone else takes it', or a request to hand over without photos and confirmation in the app.
- A price or deal too good to be true — premium items far below market price are a classic scam pattern.
- Found one of these? Stop the transaction and report it through the booking chat or the help page. Payments are only ever safe inside the platform.
