Terms & Conditions
Applies to all Carter users — Renters and Owners alike. By registering, renting, or opening a Shop, you agree to the following. Written concisely in plain language.
This is a translation of the Indonesian original. In the event of any discrepancy, the Indonesian version shall prevail.
1. Definitions and the role of Carter
- “Carter” is an online platform that connects owners of items with people who want to rent them, and safeguards transaction funds through escrow (a platform holding account).
- Carter is not the seller, owner, renter, courier, financier, or insurer of any item. All items are rented directly between users.
- An “Owner” is a user who lists an item for rent; a “Renter” is a user who books an item. Both are bound by these terms.
- The rental agreement is made between the Owner and the Renter. Carter provides the means to meet, pay safely, document handovers, and resolve disputes.
2. Accounts, Rental Hub & identity verification
- One account per person. The details you provide (name, city, payout bank account) must be correct and reachable. Accounts with false information may be deactivated.
- To start renting out items, you activate your Rental Hub (Shop): choose a shop name, write a short bio, and agree to the rental policy.
- Identity verification is done by uploading a photo of your ID card (KTP) through the profile page. The document is reviewed by admins, stored privately, and its status is shown on your profile (not verified / being verified / verified / rejected).
- Accounts that violate these terms may be restricted or blocked, with or without prior notice.
3. Listings: honesty is required
- Only items you legitimately own, that are legal, and that are fit for use may be listed.
- Photos must be original, taken from your own item (3–10 photos). Stock photos, photos of other people, or misleadingly edited photos are prohibited.
- Describe the condition honestly: pick a condition grade (A/B/C) and, for grade C, write the required note on its flaws. A misleading description is grounds for removing the listing and for dispute decisions.
- Fill in the daily rate, the replacement value of the item, the deposit, the minimum–maximum rental duration, and the handover method (pickup and/or courier).
- Vehicles must be equipped with valid official documents.
4. Prohibited items & content moderation
- The following may not be listed: items prohibited by law, items requiring permits you do not hold, items you do not own, and items that could endanger safety.
- Listing content (title, description, photos) must not contain hate speech, violence, pornography, fraud, or other unlawful material.
- Users can report problematic listings or accounts through the report button.
- Admins may review, pause, or remove listings, and block offending accounts.
5. Pricing, commission & promotions
- Creating a listing is free. Carter charges a commission on the rental rate, shown as a percentage in the order breakdown before you pay.
- Owners can set Flash Deals (a percentage discount) on their items — the effective price after the discount is shown on the listing.
- Coupons give percentage discounts capped at a maximum rupiah amount, applied automatically at checkout.
- Total bill = rental rate after discount/coupon + deposit + shipping (if by courier) + the unique payment code.
6. Payment & escrow
- All payments (rental + deposit + shipping) go into the platform account (escrow) — not directly to the owner, and not to any personal account.
- Pay with the 3-digit unique code and upload the transfer receipt. Once verified, the funds are HELD by the platform — the owner has not received anything yet.
- Funds are released when the rental ends: the Owner receives the rental rate + fines − the platform commission; the Renter receives the remaining deposit.
- All fund movements are recorded in a ledger you can view and export on the Deposit page.
7. Deposit & deductions
- The deposit is optional — the Owner sets the amount on the listing, including choosing to require none. The amount is always shown before you book.
- The deposit is the maximum the Renter can be liable for. There are no charges beyond the deposit.
- Every deposit deduction must be backed by photo evidence (initial condition compared with final condition) and follows the deduction matrix in the Deposit & Damage Policy.
8. Handover & return
- The Owner must upload photos of the initial condition of the item at handover. These photos are the anchor for assessment if a dispute occurs.
- The Renter inspects the item and then confirms: “condition as described” (the rental starts) or “condition differs” (opens a dispute).
- At return, the Renter uploads photos of the final condition. The Owner verifies within 48 hours at most — after that, the transaction completes automatically and the deposit is returned in full.
- For courier shipping: unboxing photos are required. Damage visible before the Renter confirms receipt = a 100% refund.
9. Cancellation, expiry & fines
- A rental request not answered by the Owner within 24 hours expires automatically at no cost.
- The Renter can cancel the booking while payment has not been verified. After the item has been handed over, termination follows the dispute and deposit flow.
- Late returns are charged a fine of half the daily rate per day, capped at the remaining deposit.
- If an item is lost or not returned within 7 days past the due date: the entire deposit becomes compensation for the Owner.
10. Disputes
- A dispute is opened from the booking page: the Renter marks “condition differs” at handover, the Owner reports “damaged/lost” at verification, or either party presses report a problem.
- While a dispute is open, funds remain held in escrow — no party receives or loses money before the decision.
- Both parties upload evidence. The initial-condition photos are always available for comparison.
- Admins mediate and decide based on the deposit deduction matrix. The admin decision is final and recorded in the transaction ledger.
11. Reviews
- Reviews may only be written from real transactions and must be honest.
- Fake reviews, paid reviews, or reviews containing harassment may be removed.
- Users who manipulate ratings (their own or those of other users) may be restricted or blocked.
12. Platform abuse prohibited
- Paying or requesting payment outside the platform is prohibited for any reason — transactions outside escrow are not protected by Carter policies.
- Circumventing the handover flow is prohibited: refusing condition photos, forcing confirmation before the item is inspected, or discarding the documentation.
- Creating duplicate accounts, uploading prohibited content (Article 4), manipulating reviews, or using the system automatically/excessively (scraping, enumeration) is prohibited — traffic is limited by rate limits.
- Violations lead to: warnings, listing pauses, up to account blocking. Payment obligations already incurred are still settled according to the matrix.
13. Limitation of platform liability
- Carter is not a party to the rental agreement between users and does not guarantee the condition, fitness, ownership, or safety of items.
- The role of Carter over funds is that of an escrow custodian under the policy matrix — not insurance and not a guarantee against losses beyond the deposit.
- The service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, Carter is not liable for indirect losses arising from use of the platform.
14. Account deletion
- You may request account deletion at any time through the Contact page (support email) — include your registered email for identity verification.
- Ongoing obligations (active bookings, disputes, fund withdrawals) must be settled before the account is deleted.
- Personal data is deleted according to the privacy policy. Past transaction records and ledger entries are kept as bookkeeping archives under applicable regulations.
15. Changes to these terms
- Carter may update these terms at any time. The latest version is always available on this page.
- Material changes are announced through the platform (notifications or announcements).
- Continuing to use Carter after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not agree, stop using the platform and request account deletion.
